Choose the rug shape
Select rectangular, round or oval according to the finished rug you are evaluating.
Enter the finished rug dimensions, price per square foot and order quantity to estimate rug area, price per piece and total purchase value.
This calculator is designed for importers, wholesalers, retailers, sourcing companies, interior brands and rug manufacturers comparing prices across different sizes.
Enter the rug shape, finished dimensions, supplier rate per square foot and order quantity. The calculator determines rug area and estimated price per rug.
Estimates generated by this calculator are for preliminary planning only. Actual manufacturing cost, finished weight, material consumption, packing, freight, duty, container utilization or other commercial results may vary according to construction, specifications, production method and supplier.
Rugs are frequently priced according to their surface area, particularly when buyers are comparing multiple dimensions within the same construction. A supplier may provide a price per square foot, price per square metre or direct price per piece.
Primeval's Rug Price per Square Foot Calculator converts finished rug dimensions into surface area and applies a specified price per square foot to calculate an estimated price per rug.
This can be especially useful when developing a rug collection containing several sizes. Instead of requesting a separate preliminary calculation for every dimension, a buyer can use a known square-foot rate to estimate how the price changes as rug area increases.
The calculation should be treated as a commercial planning estimate. Actual factory prices may not scale perfectly with area because rug manufacturing includes material, labour, setup, design, backing, washing, finishing, packaging and minimum-production costs.
Enter your specifications and use the result as a practical starting point for product, sourcing and shipment planning.
Select rectangular, round or oval according to the finished rug you are evaluating.
Add width and length for rectangular or oval rugs. For a circular rug, enter the finished diameter.
Use the supplier's quoted rate, manufacturing rate or your target purchasing rate per square foot.
Select the currency used for the price input. No live exchange-rate conversion is performed.
Enter the number of rugs to calculate the approximate total purchase value for the order.
The calculator determines rug area and applies the entered square-foot rate to estimate price per piece and total order value.
The calculator first determines the finished rug area. That area is converted to square feet and multiplied by the entered rate per square foot.
See how typical values translate into a useful planning estimate.
A 160 × 230 cm rectangular rug has an area of approximately 39.61 square feet.
A 200 × 300 cm rug covers approximately 64.58 square feet. At a rate of $4 per square foot, its theoretical area-based price is approximately $258.32.
A 5 × 8 ft rectangular rug has exactly 40 square feet of surface area.
An 8 × 10 ft rug has 80 square feet of area, making square-foot pricing easy to compare with smaller sizes from the same collection.
A circular rug must be priced using its circular area rather than diameter multiplied by diameter.
Area-based rug pricing starts by calculating the finished surface area of the rug. Once the area is expressed in square feet, it can be multiplied by the applicable price per square foot.
For example, a rectangular rug measuring 5 × 8 feet has a surface area of 40 square feet. At $4 per square foot, its theoretical area-based price would be $160.
This method is useful for rapid price comparison, but actual manufacturing quotations may include size-dependent or design-dependent adjustments.
Square-foot pricing gives buyers a common basis for comparing rugs of different dimensions. It is particularly useful when a rug collection uses substantially the same material, construction and design language across several sizes.
International rug manufacturers may quote in square metres while buyers in markets such as the United States may prefer square feet. Converting between the two units is therefore important when comparing prices.
One square metre equals approximately 10.7639 square feet. A supplier rate quoted per square metre should not be compared directly with a rate quoted per square foot without conversion.

Area-based pricing is useful for planning, but actual factory costing is more complex. Manufacturing a rug includes fixed and variable costs that do not necessarily increase in exact proportion to surface area.
A small rug can sometimes have a higher effective price per square foot than a larger rug because setup, finishing, labels, packaging and handling costs are distributed across fewer square feet.
Two rugs with exactly the same dimensions can have substantially different prices per square foot because construction determines material consumption, labour, production speed and finishing requirements.
Material is one of the largest cost variables in rug manufacturing. Therefore, a square-foot rate should always be considered together with the specified fibre, yarn quality and construction.
Area measures size, not manufacturing difficulty. A simple solid-colour rug and a multi-level carved rug may cover exactly the same number of square feet but require very different production inputs.
For buyers developing a size assortment, area pricing provides a practical starting point for commercial planning. A buyer can estimate different size prices from a benchmark rate and then compare those results with actual supplier quotations.
A lower price per square foot does not automatically mean better value. Quotations should be compared only when the product specifications are substantially equivalent.
A production rate per square foot should not automatically be treated as an FOB export price. FOB pricing may incorporate inland transportation, export documentation, handling, factory overhead and other commercial expenses depending on the supplier's quotation structure.
Always confirm the Incoterm and exactly what the quoted rate includes before comparing suppliers.
The manufacturing or FOB price represents only part of the buyer's final commercial cost. Importers may also incur freight, insurance, customs duty, import taxes, customs brokerage, domestic transport, warehousing and fulfilment expenses.
After establishing landed cost, buyers can apply their required wholesale or retail margin. Primeval's Landed Cost and Wholesale Margin calculators can be used for the next stage of this analysis.
Once the estimated price per rug is known, multiplying that price by quantity provides an approximate total merchandise value.
For collections containing multiple designs and sizes, calculate each SKU separately before combining the values into an overall purchase-order estimate.
Cost engineering should focus on improving manufacturing efficiency while preserving the design and performance characteristics that matter to the buyer.
A square-foot estimate is useful for preliminary planning, but factories need complete specifications to prepare meaningful commercial quotations.
This calculator multiplies rug surface area by the square-foot rate entered by the user. It cannot determine the correct factory rate for a specific rug construction.
Actual rug pricing depends on material, yarn consumption, pile, construction, design complexity, labour, finishing, backing, quantity, testing, packaging, commercial terms and individual factory costing.
Use the calculator for initial planning and quotation comparison, then request an actual price against the complete rug specification.
Price per square foot is useful only when the products being compared have similar specifications. Buyers should avoid selecting a supplier solely because its area rate appears lower.
Wool, cotton, jute, viscose and synthetic rugs can have very different cost structures.
Hand-tufted, woven, flatweave and hand-knotted rugs are not directly equivalent.
Lower GSM or material density can create a lower rate but a materially different product.
Carving, high-low pile and detailed motifs can add significant labour.
Backing, latex, washing and finishing specifications should be equivalent.
A factory-gate price should not be compared directly with an FOB or delivered quotation.
