This calculator is designed for wholesale buyers, importers, retailers, sourcing companies, designers and manufacturers comparing carpet quotations based on square-meter pricing.
Enter the carpet dimensions and supplier rate per square meter. The calculator determines carpet area, estimated price per piece and total value for the planned order.
Estimates generated by this calculator are for preliminary planning only. Actual manufacturing cost, finished weight, material consumption, packing, freight, duty, container utilization or other commercial results may vary according to construction, specifications, production method and supplier.
Carpet suppliers often quote prices by square meter, particularly when multiple carpet sizes use the same material and construction. While square-meter pricing makes it easier to compare products, buyers still need to convert that rate into the actual price of each carpet size.
Primeval's Carpet Price per Square Meter Calculator converts finished carpet dimensions into surface area and multiplies that area by the entered price per square meter. It then calculates an estimated price per carpet and total order value for the specified quantity.
The calculator can be particularly useful when a collection includes several sizes, such as 120 × 180 cm, 160 × 230 cm, 200 × 300 cm and custom dimensions, but the manufacturer provides one base rate per square meter.
The calculated amount should be used as a commercial planning estimate. Actual factory prices can vary because of construction, material consumption, design complexity, finishing, minimum order quantity, packing, testing, Incoterm and other commercial factors.
Enter your specifications and use the result as a practical starting point for product, sourcing and shipment planning.
Choose rectangular, round or oval depending on the finished carpet. The correct shape is required to calculate surface area accurately.
Enter width and length for rectangular or oval products, or diameter for a round carpet.

The result shows estimated carpet area, price per piece and total purchase value based on the entered square-meter rate.
Carpet pricing by square meter begins by calculating the finished surface area of the product. That area is then multiplied by the agreed or target rate per square meter.
See how typical values translate into a useful planning estimate.
A 160 × 230 cm rectangular carpet has an area of 3.68 square metres.
A larger carpet increases total piece price even when the square-meter rate remains unchanged.
The same calculation can be used with EUR or another selected quotation currency.
A round carpet must be calculated using circular area rather than diameter multiplied by diameter.
If the estimated piece price is $82.80, multiplying by the planned quantity provides a preliminary order value.
Square-meter pricing provides a common basis for pricing carpets of different sizes. Instead of quoting a separate arbitrary price for every dimension, a supplier may establish a rate for each square meter of a particular construction.
The finished surface area of each carpet is calculated and multiplied by that rate to produce an estimated piece price.
For example, a carpet with an area of 3.68 m² priced at $22.50 per m² has a theoretical piece value of $82.80.
Accurate area calculation is essential because an error in area directly affects the calculated carpet price. Different carpet shapes require different formulas.
| Shape | Formula | Dimensions Required |
|---|---|---|
| Rectangle | Width × Length | Width + Length |
| Square | Side × Side | Side |
| Round | π × Radius² | Diameter |
| Oval | π × (Width ÷ 2) × (Length ÷ 2) | Width + Length |
These reference values can help buyers quickly understand the surface area of commonly purchased carpet sizes.
| Carpet Size | Area in m² | Approx. Area in ft² |
|---|---|---|
| 80 × 150 cm | 1.20 m² | 12.92 ft² |
| 120 × 180 cm | 2.16 m² | 23.25 ft² |
| 140 × 200 cm | 2.80 m² | 30.14 ft² |
| 160 × 230 cm | 3.68 m² | 39.61 ft² |
| 180 × 270 cm | 4.86 m² | 52.31 ft² |
| 200 × 300 cm | 6.00 m² | 64.58 ft² |
| 250 × 350 cm | 8.75 m² | 94.18 ft² |
| 300 × 400 cm | 12.00 m² | 129.17 ft² |
The following examples demonstrate mathematical price differences only. They are not Primeval factory quotations or market-price benchmarks.
| Carpet Size | Area | $15/m² | $25/m² | $35/m² |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 120 × 180 cm | 2.16 m² | $32.40 | $54.00 | $75.60 |
| 140 × 200 cm | 2.80 m² | $42.00 | $70.00 | $98.00 |
| 160 × 230 cm | 3.68 m² | $55.20 | $92.00 | $128.80 |
| 180 × 270 cm | 4.86 m² | $72.90 | $121.50 | $170.10 |
| 200 × 300 cm | 6.00 m² | $90.00 | $150.00 | $210.00 |
| 250 × 350 cm | 8.75 m² | $131.25 | $218.75 | $306.25 |
Piece prices can be difficult to compare when suppliers quote different carpet dimensions. Converting quotations into a common square-meter basis can help buyers understand pricing differences more clearly.
However, price per square meter should only be compared when product specifications are genuinely similar.
A square-meter price is meaningful only when the products being compared have substantially equivalent specifications. A $20/m² carpet and a $30/m² carpet may represent entirely different products.
The method used to manufacture a carpet is one of the most important determinants of its square-meter price. Production speed, labour intensity, yarn usage and finishing requirements can differ significantly between constructions.
The square-meter rate incorporates both how much material is used and the cost of that material. Fibre composition therefore has a major influence on carpet pricing.
Yes. Two carpets with identical dimensions, material and GSM may still have different production costs because of design complexity.
A calculated piece price assumes the entered m² rate already reflects the planned commercial quantity. In actual manufacturing, square-meter pricing can change according to order volume.
Small production runs may carry higher rates because setup, colour preparation, yarn procurement, design development and production planning costs are distributed over fewer pieces.
One major advantage of square-meter pricing is the ability to estimate custom dimensions. Once a realistic production rate per m² is established, buyers can calculate preliminary prices for multiple sizes without requesting an entirely new piece quotation for every dimension.
This approach is particularly useful for hospitality, interior-design and project-based orders where room dimensions can differ.
Round carpet pricing should be based on the actual circular surface area rather than treating the diameter as both the width and length of a rectangle.
For a 180 cm diameter carpet, the radius is 0.9 metres. Its approximate area is 2.545 m². At $30 per square metre, the theoretical piece price is approximately $76.34.
Buyers do not have to use only supplier-provided rates. A target price per square meter can also be useful during sourcing.
If a retailer knows the maximum acceptable buying price for each finished size, those piece targets can be converted into an approximate target rate per square meter. That target can then guide material, construction and design discussions with manufacturers.
A square-meter rate does not by itself explain the commercial term of the quotation. Buyers should confirm whether the price is EXW, FOB, FCA, CIF, DDP or another agreed Incoterm.
The same physical carpet can have different quoted rates depending on which transport, export and logistics responsibilities are included.
A manufacturing cost per square meter is not necessarily the same as a supplier's FOB selling rate. Commercial quotations can include indirect overhead, packaging, inland logistics, export documentation, finance expense and supplier margin.
Always compare prices using both equivalent specifications and equivalent commercial terms.
Not unless the quotation specifically states that freight is included. A carpet price calculated from an EXW or FOB m² rate does not automatically include international ocean freight, air freight, destination charges, customs duty or import taxes.
For a complete buying analysis, use carpet price together with CBM, shipment weight and landed-cost calculations.
Importers should avoid evaluating carpet profitability using only the factory price. International freight, insurance, customs duty, brokerage, destination transport, warehousing and other charges can increase the effective landed cost.
Once an estimated carpet piece price has been calculated, use a landed-cost calculator to understand the broader import economics.
A manufacturer needs more than dimensions to provide a reliable commercial quotation. Detailed specifications reduce uncertainty and make supplier comparisons more meaningful.
A lower square-meter price is not automatically a better quotation. Buyers should normalize the specifications before comparing commercial offers.
This calculator multiplies carpet surface area by the square-meter price entered by the user. It does not independently determine the correct manufacturing rate for a specific product.
The actual price per square meter should be established from the carpet's material, construction, weight, pile, design, backing, finishing, quantity, packaging, quality requirements and commercial terms.
Use the result for sourcing analysis and budget planning, then request an actual supplier quotation for the final specification.
Square-meter pricing is useful only when the underlying specifications and quotation terms are comparable.
Hand tufted, flatwoven, handwoven and hand-knotted products have different cost structures.
Different fibres, yarn qualities and blends can change square-meter pricing substantially.
Make sure the products contain a comparable quantity of material.
Latex, secondary backing, carving, washing and edge finishing can change price.
A lower m² price may depend on a substantially higher minimum quantity.
Normalize EXW, FOB and delivered quotations before deciding which supplier is commercially stronger.
