CBM is especially important for LCL ocean freight because shipments from multiple exporters can be consolidated into one container. Freight quotations may consider shipment volume together with weight and other applicable charges.
For larger curtain orders, total CBM also provides an early indication of how much container space may be required.
LCL means Less than Container Load. It is commonly used when an order does not require a complete shipping container.
A reliable CBM estimate helps buyers and freight forwarders plan consolidation space, but the final charge can depend on carrier tariffs, origin charges, destination handling, shipment weight and minimum billing rules.
For larger programmes, total shipment CBM can be compared with approximate container volume as an early planning tool. However, container capacity should never be calculated from theoretical CBM alone.

CBM measures shipment volume, while air freight and courier services often calculate volumetric or dimensional weight using package dimensions and a carrier-specific divisor.
A lightweight but bulky curtain shipment may therefore be charged on volumetric weight rather than actual scale weight.
