How Is Runner Rug Weight Calculated?

A runner rug is normally rectangular, making its theoretical weight relatively straightforward to estimate when finished dimensions and GSM are known. Width and length are first converted into metres and multiplied to calculate surface area. That area is then multiplied by approximate finished GSM.

Because GSM is stated in grams per square metre, the resulting figure is divided by 1,000 to express the estimated runner weight in kilograms.

This calculation works best when the GSM represents the full finished construction rather than only one material component such as pile yarn.
