Curtain weight can be important for sourcing, manufacturing, installation, packaging and logistics. Unlike a flat textile panel, the weight of a finished curtain cannot always be estimated accurately from the visible finished width and drop alone because curtains often contain significantly more fabric than their finished face dimensions suggest.
The main reason is curtain fullness. A finished curtain panel measuring 140 cm wide may use 280 cm of flat fabric width when produced at 2× fullness. Pleats, gathers and folds therefore increase the actual material area and finished weight.

A curtain with a finished width of 150 cm at 2× fullness may use approximately 300 cm of flat textile width. At 2.5× fullness, the same finished curtain may represent approximately 375 cm of flat fabric width.
This is why simply multiplying finished width × finished drop can significantly underestimate curtain material area and weight.

GSM means grams per square metre. When the total textile area is known, GSM provides a practical way to estimate material weight.
For example, 10 square metres of 150 GSM fabric theoretically weighs approximately 1.5 kg, while the same textile area at 350 GSM theoretically weighs approximately 3.5 kg.
The weight specification should refer to the actual fabric being used. Coating, lamination and finishing can alter measured finished GSM.
Curtain textiles cover a wide range of constructions and weights. Fibre name alone does not determine product weight, so buyers should use actual GSM specifications wherever possible.
A lined curtain contains an additional textile layer behind the decorative face fabric. Its contribution to finished weight depends on the lining area and its GSM.
Standard lining, blackout lining, thermal lining and interlining can all have different weights. For accurate project calculations, each layer should ideally be evaluated separately.
The heading determines how fabric is arranged at the top of a curtain and can influence both fullness and the components included in the finished panel.
A finished curtain drop does not represent the complete cut length of the fabric. Additional material is commonly required at the top and bottom for construction.
